We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Demitro and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jessica, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I had just completed college and was working in my field as an intake coordinator and the thought came to me that I need to create my own upward mobility. That I could not see myself dedicating my life to working for someone else. I love working in nonprofits and helping to build community but I don’t want that to be my legacy, I feel like everything I was learning was going to help me develop the tools for success in my own business.
The nonprofit career is more of a stepping stone and the people I have worked with have helped support me and my business endeavors. It also helped me to come into the open with my ideas and they accepted and even celebrated me as Astrologer and Tarot reader. This was so important for me to not have to hid it from everyone to be accepted.
I have studied Astrology and Tarot for over 25 years and I wake up and study it everyday. It is my greatest passion and inspiration. I am extremely knowledgeable, and I knew this was part of who I wanted to be as a professional in the world. I want to bring credibility and acceptance to this incredibly helpful and growing field.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am the owner of Asteria Awakenings which offers astrology and tarot readings and I am also a certified hypnotherapist.
What sets me apart is that I offer all of these services together or separately. I am very knowledgeable about so many things and have dedicated my life to studying these very complicated subjects. It’s not just knowledge but connecting with people on a deep level creating a safe space. I am very compassionate and supportive to my clients. I am someone who constantly challenges myself. I am most excited to start creating classes to teach my own brand of astrology and teach people to use their intuition and trust themselves.
Although, I have only just begun my business in 2021. I have already started to expand my opportunities and I am doing regular in-person readings once a month and it has been absolutely incredible. I am starting to create classes so I can teach and I see many more opportunities ahead.
I got to where I am by just doing one thing at a time and not letting myself get off track. I know it takes time to create a successful business and it takes just as much time to keep it successful. Also, I have a work-life balance. I meditate and workout as often as possible. It is not easy but it’s nothing worthwhile ever is. I overcome challenges by waking up every day and doing my best! I don’t give up and I take a break when I need to. I have learned that having a goal is important and trusting myself and my knowledge. This wisdom is what I also tell my clients.
I have overcome so many things to get here and I plan on making my mark on the world in this industry. The world is now really seeing Astrology and how useful it is in our daily lives and in understanding the world around us.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take them to the Marin Headlands and go to.the beach for a beautiful hike. Then we would go to San Francisco and walk and eat downtown. The next day we would go to Sonoma County and do my favorite drive which starts at the Russian River where we would go to the shops and have ice cream then go to the Sonoma Coast and walk on the beach then go to dinner in Bodga Bay. Then go to Petaluma and end up at the bookstore until it was time to go home. I would then plan a two-day trip to Monterey and Carmel. We would drive Hwy 1 and stop at different places like Half Moon Bay to walk on the beach, shop and eat. Then drive to Santa Cruz to eat on the Warf and walk on the Boardwalk. We would stay in Carmel but go to Pacific Grove to eat breakfast. The people in these areas are friendly.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First of all, I want to acknowledge my parents who are both astrologers and not only helped me develop the language but would accept me regardless of what I decided to do.
My sister-in-law who is my best friend and my biggest supporter of me and my work. She also reminds me that I need to put myself out there and take risks.
My co-host of my podcast The Alchemical Goat Bobbie Larson. We can talk for hours and hours and we really enjoy and respect each other's thoughts and ideas. I feel like we make magic every time we record a new show.
Megan Rooney is my spiritual/business mentor who creates a much needed space for me to work through my deepest fears and my spiritual, personal and work related challenges.
I also have an amazing group of close friends who believe in me and love me regardless of being successful.
My children are amazing humans and who understand my need to dedicate my time and energy to my business .
My husband who knows me to my very core and knows that I am here to do this and who finds ways to support me every single day!
Lastly to my amazing clients who have entrusted me with their deepest secrets and let me guide them through the darkness to find self-empowerment and trust in themselves. It takes courage to let someone see the pain and suffering that we all are carrying.
